Stop Making Your Guests Download Another App

Let's be blunt about something the events industry keeps pretending isn't true: nobody wants to download your event app.

Not your wedding guests. Not the attendees at the shower. Not Uncle Ray, who still keeps his phone at arm's length to read a text. The moment your event asks someone to visit an app store, create an account, and grant permissions — for a party they'll attend for four hours — most of them quietly opt out.

The download tax is real

Every step between "I'd like to take part" and "I'm taking part" loses people. An app download is not one step. It's several:

  1. Find the right app among the dozen with similar names.
  2. Wait for it to install on questionable venue Wi-Fi.
  3. Create an account (and remember yet another password).
  4. Figure out how to actually find your event inside it.
  5. Grant camera and photo permissions.

By step three, a big share of your guests have put their phone back in their pocket. The ones who push through are usually the tech-comfortable minority — which is exactly why "download our app" events end up with a handful of contributors and a lot of missing photos.

"But the app has more features"

Maybe. But a feature nobody reaches isn't a feature — it's a screenshot in a pitch deck. The best guest experience isn't the one with the longest capability list. It's the one the most guests actually complete. Reach beats richness every time at a live event.

What actually works: a scan, not an install

The alternative is almost boringly simple. A guest points their camera at a QR code, taps the link that appears, and they're in — the check-in, the photo upload, the seat finder, the guest book. No store, no account, no password. It works on the phone they already have, in the browser that's already installed.

This is not a small optimization. It's the difference between 10% of guests participating and half the room joining in. When there's no download tax, people who never would have bothered end up sharing the best candid of the night.

The honest test

Before you commit to any event platform, run one test: hand it to the least tech-savvy person you know and watch them try to share a photo. If they get there in a few seconds without installing anything, you've found the right tool. If they hesitate, ask a question, or reach for help — imagine that same hesitation multiplied across everyone you've invited.

Your guests came to celebrate, not to onboard. Meet them where they already are.

No app. No account. Just a scan.

Guests check in, share photos, and sign the guest book straight from their camera — nothing to download. Set up your event in minutes.
